Nearly 300 business and community-minded individuals celebrated women’s career achievements at the 14th Annual A Night Out, hosted by Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP (Gardere). The event, held on November 19th at the River Oaks Country Club, generated approximately $141,290 for Dress for Success® Houston (DFSH) to provide professional attire and a valuable network of support and career development tools for women to thrive professionally and personally.
Gardere served as presenting sponsor for the tenth consecutive year, and Rachel Powitzky Steely, a labor and employment partner in Gardere’s Houston office, presided as chair for the event. Attended by trailblazers and senior-level businesswomen, the event was emceed by KTRK ABC 13 Anchor Sharron Melton and featured DFSH female veteran success stories, a fashion show with the latest styles from Elizabeth Anthony and À Bientôt showcased by local image consultant Cathy Fitzpatrick Cleary, boutique shopping, and a silent auction.
Every year, A Night Out is an instrumental fundraiser for DFSH and is organized through the combined efforts of DFSH and the Gardere Women’s Council, a business networking and professional development organization established by the firm to support its female attorneys and clients. Members of the Gardere Women’s Council, which include event chair, Rachel Powitzky Steely, are leaders within the firm and legal community and are also active contributors to other civic and community initiatives.
“It’s such an honor for the Gardere Women’s Council to be a part of this event year after year,” said Steely. “We whole-heartedly believe in the mission of Dress for Success Houston, and to be part of an event that provides such life-changing services to women embarking on their journey into the workforce, is something that we look forward to every year.”
“Because of the ongoing commitment of Gardere and their Women’s Council, we’re able to have a seamless event each fall to honor so many deserving up-and-coming businesswomen in the Houston community,” said Nancy Levicki, Dress for Success Houston president and co-founder. “The money we raised at A Night Out will not only give women a professional look and the confidence to make a lasting impression, but it will also provide ongoing career education. We are so appreciative of our partnership with Gardere and could not be more proud of the 2,400 Houston-area women that Dress for Success Houston will serve in the next year.”
Since Gardere has been a part of the event for the last 10 years, they have raised more than $840,000 for DFSH.
